The high plateau of the Land of Shadow with Moorth Ruins, Bonny Village, Recluses' River and the Shadow Keep looming over it.

Bosses

  • Black Knight Garrew: Walks the Fog Rift Fort below the cliffs on the western edge of Scadu Altus (nearest grace: Scadu Altus, West). His greatshield blocks a lot, so circle behind him and strike after his mace slams.
  • Ralva the Great Red Bear: Wanders a lake a short ride north-west of the Highroad Cross grace. Fire works best; stay at its side and watch for its sudden lunges.
  • Dryleaf Dane: Optional fight at the Moorth Ruins; start it by performing the "May the Best Win" gesture facing him. He brawls unarmed with quick kicks, so block carefully and punish in the gaps between his combos.
  • Ghostflame Dragon: Sleeps beside the Moorth Highway; ride past to activate the Moorth Highway, South grace before waking it. Fight on Torrent around its legs; it leaves a Dragon Heart and a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
  • Curseblade Labirith: Waits at the bottom of Bonny Gaol near Bonny Village. It vanishes and reappears mid-combo, so watch its blades rather than its body and punish each landing.
  • Black Knight Edredd: Guards the Fort of Reprimand in Scadu Altus. His combos are long and fast; roll to his back and strike in the gaps between strings.
  • Rakshasa: Follow Recluses' River downstream from its Upstream grace to find it in the Eastern Nameless Mausoleum. Its great katana hits very hard; dodge the lunges and use Lightning.
  • Jori, Elder Inquisitor: Boss of the Darklight Catacombs, the way into the Abyssal Woods. He sweeps the long staff-spear in wide arcs; roll through and punish the recovery.
  • Metyr, Mother of Fingers: Rests below the Cathedral of Manus Metyr; ring the bell there at the end of Count Ymir's quest to reach her. Stay under her body to dodge the star spells and gravity waves.
  • Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers: After Metyr falls, Ymir turns on you in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. He is a caster, so stay close and punish him between sorceries.

  • Retaliatory Crossed-Tree (Shadow of the Erdtree): Follow Needle Knight Leda: after helping her kill Hornsent, join her invasion against Ansbach, then return to her and say goodbye. Siding with Hornsent loses it.

  • Verdigris Discus (Shadow of the Erdtree): Open the waygate west of Highroad Cross with an Imbued Sword Key, head uphill to the twin waterfalls and pass a Divine Bird Warrior to the statue holding it.
  • Scadutree Fragment (Shadow of the Erdtree): Next to Miquella's Cross at the Highroad Cross grace, where Needle Knight Leda and Hornsent gather.

  • Crimsonburst Dried Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Dropped by the Furnace Golem by Messmer's army camp in front of the Shadow Keep, north of Highroad Cross.
  • Cerulean-Sapping Cracked Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Dropped by the armored Furnace Golem in the woods north of the Bridge Leading to the Village grace. Its legs are immune, so use the spiritspring and lob fire pots into its basket.
  • Oil-Soaked Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): The Furnace Golem standing at the Ruins of Unte, below the Castle Watering Hole grace, wakes as you approach; kill it for this tear.
  • Bloodsucking Cracked Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): The dormant Furnace Golem at the Ruins of Unte must be lit first: throw a Hefty Furnace Pot (or Hefty Fire Pot) into its head, then kill it.
  • Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone (Shadow of the Erdtree): Light the furnace found at the far end of Ruined Forge of Starfall Past; the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword comes from it as well.
  • Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone (Shadow of the Erdtree): Dropped by the Ghostflame Dragon on the Moorth Highway north of the Fort of Reprimand.
  • Larval Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Only at night: stand within the ring of glowing gravestones on the southern side of the Church of the Crusade.
  • Larval Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Night only: inside the ring of glowing gravestones west of Rabbath's Rise, by the Church District Highroad grace.
  • Larval Tear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Night only: inside the ring of glowing gravestones east of Messmer's army camp in front of the Shadow Keep.

  • Serpent Flail (Shadow of the Erdtree): Drop down the cliffs west of the Scadu Altus, West grace into Fog Rift Fort; after the ladder, drop east and open the chest.
  • Smithscript Spear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Right after crossing the first bridge in the Ruined Forge of Starfall Past, a corpse on your right holds it.
  • Messmer Soldier's Spear (Shadow of the Erdtree): Messmer Soldiers carrying it drop it about 2% of the time; a small camp sits across the road west of Moorth Ruins.
  • Tooth Whip (Shadow of the Erdtree): East of Bonny Village, go over the first bridge and step into the Whipping Hut, where it lies.
  • Dryleaf Arts (Shadow of the Erdtree): Find Dryleaf Dane near Moorth Ruins and perform the May the Best Win gesture at him; he hands over this martial art along with his hat.
  • Claws of Night (Shadow of the Erdtree): Dropped by Swordhand of Night Anna, who invades as you advance Count Ymir's questline around the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
  • Repeating Crossbow (Shadow of the Erdtree): By a wooden barricade along the highway north of the Moorth Highway, South grace, close to where the Ghostflame Dragon lands.
  • Rabbath's Cannon (Shadow of the Erdtree): Ride the spiritspring near the Church District Highroad grace up to the top of Rabbath's Rise, where it lies.
  • Maternal Staff (Shadow of the Erdtree): Dropped by Count Ymir when you fight him at the end of his questline in the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.
  • Dryleaf Seal (Shadow of the Erdtree): South of the Recluses' River Upstream grace, cross to the right bank and drop onto a ledge that rises into a stone bridge; follow it left to a spot ringed by Gravebirds and drop down.
  • Shield of Night (Shadow of the Erdtree): In Bonny Gaol, ride the jar lift down and stay on it; it carries you back up past your start to a ledge with the shield.
  • Black Steel Greatshield (Shadow of the Erdtree): Drop from Black Knight Garrew, who patrols Fog Rift Fort below the cliffs west of the Scadu Altus, West grace.
  • Verdigris Greatshield (Shadow of the Erdtree): Sir Moore's reward: if he dies during his questline, take it from his corpse in Scadu Altus; otherwise it is yours after the last NPC fight at Enir-Ilim.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Highroad Cross and the Church of the Crusade

  • Head north from the moongazing grounds to the Highroad Cross grace.
  • Take the Scadutree Fragment from beneath the Miquella's Cross at the grace.
  • Pick up the Monk's Missive and the May the Best Win gesture lying close by.
  • Speak with Needle Knight Leda, who has set up camp at the cross.
  • Talk to Hornsent here as well; he gives you the New Cross Map.
  • Optional: fetch a second Scorpion Stew from the Grandam and offer it to Hornsent for extra dialogue; he only accepts one.
  • Ride north up the road to the stele for Map: Scadu Altus.
  • Don't ride on through the settlement north of the stele yet; getting close to Shadow Keep pushes several questlines forward early.
  • Go west and enter the Church of the Crusade, where Fire Knight Queelign invades a second time; defeat him to get Ash of War: Flame Skewer and the Prayer Room Key.
  • Collect the two Scadutree Fragments at the foot of the Marika statue inside the church.
  • North of the church, warm the shivering Forager with a Warming Stone, a Sunwarmth Stone or a healing spell.
  • Speak to the warmed Forager for Forager Brood Cookbook [4]; reload the area if no talk prompt appears.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Moorth Ruins and the Scaduview Cross

  • From Highroad Cross, follow the road north and then south-east to the Moorth Ruins grace.
  • Grab the Scadutree Fragment lying at the Miquella's Cross in the ruins.
  • Cross the road west of the grace to a camp of three tents; its Marika statue has a Scadutree Fragment.
  • Search those tents for the Fire Knight's Cookbook [1].
  • Perform May the Best Win in front of Dryleaf Dane nearby and win the duel for Dryleaf Arts and Dane's Hat.
  • Travel far south-west to the cliffs, then north-west along them to a Forager who gives you Forager Brood Cookbook [1].
  • Optional: skirt the south side of the great fissure in Moorth Ruins and kill the glowing Shadowpot there for a Scadutree Fragment.
  • Optional: a statue near the cliffs south-east of Moorth Ruins holds a Revered Spirit Ash.
  • Ride far east to the cliff edge, then south to a sealed spiritspring.
  • Continue south-east and smash the pile of stones that keeps the spiritspring sealed.
  • Spiritspring jump up and head for the far south-east corner to touch the Scaduview Cross grace.
  • Another Scadutree Fragment waits at the Miquella's Cross beside this grace.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Bonny Village and the Broken Charm

  • From Moorth Ruins, ride north-east to a lake; a Scadutree Fragment sits by the Marika statue at the cave mouth beyond it.
  • Go through the cave into the poison swamp and cross it to its north-east corner.
  • Talk to the Forager waiting there for Forager Brood Cookbook [5].
  • Back at Moorth Ruins, head south-east into the town and take the dirt road north down to the path below.
  • Follow that path to its end at the Bonny Village grace.
  • Cross the river basin north-east and keep going to the corpse beneath a tree, which carries the O Mother gesture.
  • Optional: at the northern tip of the narrow ravine through Bonny Village, a statue holds a Revered Spirit Ash.
  • Before going on, finish any conversations you still owe; the next bridge breaks Miquella's charm and changes several questlines for good.
  • Go south-east and cross the bridges toward the east to the Bridge Leading to the Village grace; a message announces that a Great Rune has shattered.
  • Stay on the road heading north to reach and light the Church District Highroad grace.
  • Ride west to the cliff and climb the rocks to the north-west, then talk to the Forager to receive Forager Brood Cookbook [6].
  • Back on the road, look for the tunnel opening to the west; inside it, light the Church District Entrance grace for a later visit.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Count Ymir and the First Bell

  • From Church District Highroad, ride south to the Cathedral of Manus Metyr and touch its grace.
  • Go through the gate and speak to Count Ymir, High Priest for the Hole-Laden Necklace and the Ruins Map; he also sells spells.
  • Look just north-west of Ymir for Swordhand of Night Jolán leaning against a pillar, and talk to her; she is easy to miss.
  • Warp to the Finger Ruins of Rhia grace and walk north until you reach the circle of giant finger statues.
  • Ring the hanging bell with the Hole-Laden Necklace to earn the Crimson Seed Talisman +1.
  • Optional: on the west side of the ruins, Finger-Weaver's Hovel holds the Finger-Weaver's Cookbook [1].
  • Return to Count Ymir for Ruins Map (2nd) and some Beloved Stardust.
  • Speak with Jolán at her pillar once more.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Leda's Suspicions

  • At Highroad Cross, speak with Hornsent now that the charm has broken.
  • Talk to Needle Knight Leda; whichever suspect you name, she settles on hunting Hornsent.
  • Reload the area and talk to Leda again.
  • Ride north-east into the army camp below Shadow Keep and take the Scadutree Fragment at its Marika statue, minding the Furnace Golem.

Walkthrough: Shadow Keep: Choosing Sides in Leda's Hunt

  • From Storehouse, First Floor, ride the lift back down to the brazier crossroads; two summon signs wait at its south-east corner.
  • Pick a side: the gold sign defends Hornsent for Ash of War: Swift Slash and Leda's Rune; the red sign helps Leda kill him for the Hornsent Set and Falx.
  • If you helped Leda, visit her at Highroad Cross for the Lacerating Crossed-Tree, then reload and talk to her again.
  • If you sided with Leda, return to Storehouse, First Floor, where a red sign for Leda and a gold one for Ansbach now appear.
  • Choose again: the gold sign saves Ansbach for Ansbach's Longbow and Leda's Rune; the red sign helps Leda kill him for Ansbach's Longbow and Ansbach's Set.
  • If Ansbach survived, talk to him after the fight; only a living Ansbach can later hand over his finest weapons.
  • If you helped Leda kill Ansbach, see her at Highroad Cross for the Retaliatory Crossed-Tree.

Walkthrough: Shadow Keep: Messmer the Impaler

  • Inside Messmer's arena, use Hornsent's sign on the right or Jolán's on the left; a summoned Hornsent later invades near the Church of the Bud instead.
  • Defeat Messmer the Impaler for the Remembrance of the Impaler and Messmer's Kindling.
  • Touch the Messmer's Dark Chamber grace that appears in the arena.
  • If Hornsent fought beside you, rest and talk to him in the arena; if you miss him there, he waits at Highroad Cross.
  • At Highroad Cross, pick up the Message from Leda left beside the cross.
  • If you ignored the first pair of signs, talk to Hornsent and Leda at Highroad Cross, reload, then speak to Leda again to start her hunt for Ansbach.
  • Wearing the Divine Beast Head, visit the Hornsent Grandam at Small Private Altar for a Gourmet Scorpion Stew.
  • Reload and collect a second Gourmet Scorpion Stew while she sleeps.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Metyr and the End of Ymir's Story

  • At the Cathedral of Manus Metyr, check in with Jolán at her pillar.
  • Speak with Count Ymir to receive Ruins Map (3rd), and keep talking until he repeats.
  • Reload the area so Ymir leaves, then examine his empty throne to reveal a ladder.
  • Descend and beat the invading Swordhand of Night Anna to collect the Claws of Night.
  • Optional: on a ledge to the left partway along the finger path, take the Finger-Weaver's Cookbook [2].
  • Ring the bell at the end of the Finger Ruins of Miyr to be carried to Metyr.
  • Bring down Metyr, Mother of Fingers; the Remembrance of the Mother of Fingers is your prize.
  • Touch the Finger Birthing Grounds grace that appears after the fight.
  • Back at the cathedral, examine the throne again; beat the invading Jolán, then Count Ymir, Mother of Fingers.
  • Collect Ymir's rewards: the High Priest Set, the Maternal Staff and Ymir's Bell Bearing.
  • Rest, then find Jolán dying by her pillar: an Iris of Grace earns the Swordhand of Night Jolán ashes, an Iris of Occultation the Sword of Night.
  • Go through the door west of the cathedral into the graveyard, take Cherishing Fingers from the grave and read the headstone.
  • From the Hinterland grace, ride south-east and climb the slope to the far corner.
  • Drop down the rocks to the south-east onto a balcony of Rabbath's Rise.
  • Interact with Anna's puppet to merge your Swordhand of Night Jolán ashes into Jolán and Anna.

Walkthrough: Scadu Altus: Recluses' River and the Darklight Catacombs

  • Starting at Main Gate Plaza, pass through the eastern door and climb until the paths cross.
  • Take the south-east path, climb down a ladder, slip behind the waterfall and descend the next ladder.
  • In the room with the painting, pass through the illusory wall and ride the coffin down to the Castle Watering Hole grace.
  • Optional: south-east past the Ruins of Unte, a statue against the cliff holds a Revered Spirit Ash.
  • Continue south-east along the riverbank and light the Recluses' River Upstream grace.
  • Optional: a stone coffin at the foot of the waterfall below the Upstream grace contains a Scadutree Fragment.
  • Follow the river path to the Recluses' River Downstream grace.
  • Optional: two lesser hippopotamuses in the lake past the grace each drop a Scadutree Fragment.
  • Optional: hug the cliff south of the grace down into the Village of Flies for another Revered Spirit Ash.
  • Jump down the tombstones jutting from the cliff face until you reach the bottom.
  • Head south-south-east and drop down a second run of tombstones.
  • Open the catacomb door and ride the lift down to the Darklight Catacombs grace.
  • Push through the catacombs and defeat Jori, Elder Inquisitor for the Barbed Staff-Spear.
