Capital Outskirts

The walls and gardens around Leyndell, guarded by a Tree Sentinel duo and Draconic Tree Sentinel. Two Great Runes open the way into the city.

Bosses

  • Tree Sentinel Duo: A torch Sentinel and a shield Sentinel guard the stairs to the capital near the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace. Fight on Torrent and focus one at a time; they also leave a Hero's Rune.
  • Bell Bearing Hunter: Appears at night at the Hermit Merchant's Shack. Use the open ground outside and punish only the end of his sword strings.
  • Deathbird: Roams east of the Hermit Merchant's Shack grace at night. Holy damage and Strike weapons make short work of it.
  • Onyx Lord: Guards the end of the Sealed Tunnel, the way to the Divine Tower of West Altus. Stay close with physical attacks and roll when it pulls you in with gravity.
  • Grave Warden Duelist: Waits at the end of the Auriza Side Tomb's maze of teleport traps. Bait his slow hammer swings and roll behind him for openings.
  • Crucible Knight & Crucible Knight Ordovis: Two Crucible Knights at the end of Auriza Hero's Grave. A spirit ash or summon to split them helps a lot; block and punish one at a time.
  • Draconic Tree Sentinel: Blocks the stairs into Leyndell above the Outer Wall Battleground. Fight on Torrent, dodge the lightning-and-fire halberd and the breath; beating it opens the Capital Rampart grace.

  • Tree Sentinel Helm: Wreck all three Flame Chariots in Auriza Hero's Grave by making them crash; the set lies in the hall they guarded.
  • Crucible Axe Helm: Dropped by Crucible Knight Ordovis and his partner, the bosses of Auriza Hero's Grave.
  • Prophet Robe: The Prophet class begins in it; buy it for 1,500 runes at the Hermit Merchant's Shack outside Leyndell's walls.
  • Prophet Robe (Altered): Get the Prophet Robe (sold at the Hermit Merchant's Shack), then choose Alter Garments at a Site of Grace.
  • Upper-Class Robe: 2,400 runes at the Hermit Merchant's Shack; another copy lies at the end of a Perfumer-filled passage in Leyndell.
  • Tree Sentinel Armor: Wreck all three Flame Chariots in Auriza Hero's Grave by making them crash; the set lies in the hall they guarded.
  • Tree Sentinel Armor (Altered): Get the Tree Sentinel Armor (earned in Auriza Hero's Grave), then choose Alter Garments at a Site of Grace.
  • Crucible Axe Armor: Dropped by Crucible Knight Ordovis and his partner, the bosses of Auriza Hero's Grave.
  • Crucible Axe Armor (Altered): Altered look of the Crucible Axe Armor, which is dropped by Crucible Knight Ordovis; switch it at a grace and back whenever you like.
  • Tree Sentinel Gauntlets: Wreck all three Flame Chariots in Auriza Hero's Grave by making them crash; the set lies in the hall they guarded.
  • Crucible Gauntlets: Comes with both Crucible outfits: the Ordovis duo in Auriza Hero's Grave drops them, and the chest behind Crucible Knight Siluria holds them too.
  • Prophet Trousers: The Prophet class begins in it; buy it for 1,000 runes at the Hermit Merchant's Shack outside Leyndell's walls.
  • Tree Sentinel Greaves: Wreck all three Flame Chariots in Auriza Hero's Grave by making them crash; the set lies in the hall they guarded.
  • Crucible Greaves: Comes with both Crucible outfits: the Ordovis duo in Auriza Hero's Grave drops them, and the chest behind Crucible Knight Siluria holds them too.
  • Ash of War: Lightning Slash: Kill the Teardrop Scarab in a small camp just outside the outer wall, near the Outer Wall Battleground grace and it gives you this.
  • Ash of War: Prayerful Strike: Dropped by an invisible Teardrop Scarab running through the arch between the moat pools near the Sealed Tunnel.
  • Ash of War: Golden Parry: Kill the skittish Teardrop Scarab on the staircase leading south from the Outer Wall Battleground grace; drop on it from above or shoot it.
  • Ash of War: Holy Ground: Auriza Hero's Grave: make the flame chariots collide and break so you can reach the area holding it and the Tree Sentinel armor.
  • Map: Leyndell, Royal Capital: At the stele near the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace in the Capital Outskirts.
  • Missionary's Cookbook [4]: A corpse beside the Minor Erdtree Church, south-west of the capital, carries it.
  • Perfumer's Cookbook [3]: Auriza Side Tomb: open the teleport chest in the room full of benches; the corpse with the book is where it drops you.
  • Smithing-Stone Miner's Bell Bearing [2]: Sealed Tunnel by the capital's outer moat: in a chest behind an illusory wall just before the lift.
  • Medicine Peddler's Bell Bearing: Kill the Bell Bearing Hunter that appears at night at the Hermit Merchant's Shack outside Leyndell.
  • Hermit Merchant's Bell Bearing [1]: The Hermit Merchant at his shack on the cliff north of Leyndell's outer wall. Merchants never die on their own, so you must kill him to get it.
  • Cracked Pot: Auriza Side Tomb, north-east of Leyndell: the first of four sits at the bottom, in the flooded rooms behind gates. Picking the Cracked Pot keepsake gives you this one at the start.
  • Cracked Pot: Auriza Side Tomb: second pot in the flooded rooms at the bottom. If you chose the Cracked Pot keepsake, this one is already yours from the start.
  • Cracked Pot: Auriza Side Tomb: third pot in the flooded rooms at the bottom.

  • Outer Order: Speak with Melina at the Minor Erdtree Church grace in the Capital Outskirts, before the Erdtree burns.
  • Viridian Amber Medallion +1: Dropped by the phantom Margit, the Fell Omen, who appears on the road south of the Outer Wall Battleground grace. Beat him before the Erdtree is burned.
  • Crucible Feather Talisman: Auriza Hero's Grave: jump down onto the rafters by the final chariot ramp, take the ladder on the south side and head down to an Omen guarding it.
  • Golden Seed: The large golden tree inside the western gate next to the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace has two seeds at its base; this is the first.
  • Golden Seed: Second of the two seeds at the large golden tree by the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace.
  • Golden Seed: A second large golden tree stands along the road north of the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace, heading to the Outer Wall Battleground; this is the first of its two seeds.

  • Crimson Crystal Tear: In the stone bowl at the foot of the Minor Erdtree in the Capital Outskirts, near the Hermit Merchant's Shack; it shares the bowl with the Twiggy Cracked Tear.
  • Twiggy Cracked Tear: In the guarded stone bowl under the Minor Erdtree in the Capital Outskirts, near the Hermit Merchant's Shack, next to a Crimson Crystal Tear.
  • Winged Crystal Tear: In a stone bowl among big gravestones and skeletons just east of the Hermit Merchant's Shack grace.
  • Golden Epitaph: Inside Auriza Hero's Grave, past the imp statue door that needs a Stonesword Key.
  • Ordovis's Greatsword: Defeat the two Crucible Knights, one of them Ordovis, at the bottom of Auriza Hero's Grave.
  • Onyx Lord's Greatsword: The Onyx Lord drops it at the end of the Sealed Tunnel beneath the Divine Tower of West Altus.
  • Gargoyle's Great Axe: The lone gargoyle north of the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace drops it, and it vanishes once the Erdtree burns.
  • Giant-Crusher: In the chest of a wagon at the soldiers' camp a short way south of the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace.
  • Dragon Greatclaw: Drop from the Draconic Tree Sentinel on the road up to the Capital Outskirts, near the Outer Wall Battleground grace.
  • Guardian's Swordspear: Erdtree Guardians carrying it drop it about 2% of the time; at least four gather around the Minor Erdtree Church.
  • Iron Ball: Loot it from Blackguard Boggart's body after he dies at the end of his questline (reload the area); killing him yourself also drops it.
  • Golden Order Seal: Lies inside the Minor Erdtree Church in the Capital Outskirts.
  • Sentry's Torch: The Hermit Merchant at his shack in the Capital Outskirts sells it for 7,000 runes.
  • Twinbird Kite Shield: Drop from the Deathbird that appears at night near the Hermit Merchant's Shack grace.
  • Distinguished Greatshield: The Hermit Merchant at his shack in the Capital Outskirts sells it for 5,500 runes.
  • Dragonclaw Shield: Drop from the Draconic Tree Sentinel on the road up to the Capital Outskirts, near the Outer Wall Battleground grace.
  • Erdtree Greatshield: Drop from the pair of Tree Sentinels guarding the stairway up to the Capital Outskirts.

Walkthrough: Capital Outskirts: Margit's Disguise and the Sentinel

  • Leave the windmill village south-east along the road, pass through the gap in the wall and touch the Outer Wall Battleground grace.
  • Rest at the battleground and listen to Melina's thoughts on the capital.
  • Slightly south-west of the grace, a motionless commoner is Margit, the Fell Omen in disguise; defeat him for the Viridian Amber Medallion +1.
  • Ride south along the road and talk to the Finger Reader crone you find there.
  • Turning south-west from the crone brings you to the Outer Wall Phantom Tree grace.
  • Read the stele close to the Phantom Tree to obtain Map: Leyndell, Royal Capital.
  • Next, the Minor Erdtree Church grace lies along the road to the south-east.
  • Rest in the church and see what Melina has to say this time.
  • Back at the Outer Wall Battleground, call Millicent and Great Horned Tragoth from their signs and defeat the Draconic Tree Sentinel.
  • Cross the bridge to the south-west of the arena and touch the Capital Rampart grace.

Walkthrough: Capital Outskirts: Boggart and the Moat Ambush

  • At Roundtable Hold, read the message left on the floor where the Dung Eater used to sit.
  • Talk to Roderika by the forge before setting out again.
  • From the Capital Rampart grace, ride north-east along the road, then south down to the outer moat; talk to Blackguard Big Boggart and buy some Boiled Crab.
  • Reload the area and speak to Boggart again, who is now badly wounded.
  • Wander the shallows nearby until the Loathsome Dung Eater invades, then defeat him for the Sword of Milos.
  • Reload if needed and loot Boggart's body for a Seedbed Curse, the Blackguard's Iron Mask and Blackguard's Bell Bearing.
